Elvis Costello & Elton John — Spectacle

Musical duos are the main attraction on the new show “Spectacle” produced by Elton John for Canada’s Sundance channel. The show features everything from  Elvis Costello’s intimate one-on-one conversations with legendary performers and notable newcomers to thematic panel discussions. The show premiered Dec. 3.

Guest artists not only talk to Costello but perform — demonstrating the development and creation of their music and playing new, stripped-down or solo versions of some of their best and most loved songs.

Costello also performs, starting each episode with an original, never before seen (or heard) interpretation of a song by the featured guest, or a song connected to them. And on top of all that are extraordinary, once-in-a-lifetime collaborations and pairings.

Madcon

This Norwegin hip-hop/pop/reggae duo scooped up a 2008 World Music Award last night (Tue., Dec. 2) and performed their hit single “Beggin.” Madcon, short for mad conspiracy is comprised of Tshawe Baqwa (Kapricon) and Yosef Wolde-Mariam. Tshawe and Yosef are currently hosts of a TV-show called The Voice of Madcon. The show airs Monday to Thursday from 10 PM to 11 PM on the Norwegian music channel “The Voice”. The show features small-talk, music videos and interviews.

The Lombard twins — Hip-hop tap.

The Lumbard twins

Argentinian tap-dancing duo Martin and Facundo Lombard dazzled viewers as part of a celeb-packed primetime premiere of Rosie Live — a variety show — on NBC Thanksgiving eve (Nov. 26, 2008). The brothers are identical twins.

Making magic with their feet. Martin and Facundo were inspired by the late tap-dancing legend Gregory Hines. The dancing duo never took formal lessons, but grew up watching American dance movies featuring tap greats like Sammy Davis, Jr., Buster Brown and Jimmy Slyde. The 1989 movie Tap is one of their favorites and motivated the duo to pursue a career as tap dancers.

If you logged on to twitter this afternoon (Tue., Nov. 18, 2008) you’ve already met this ecletic duo: the “Twitterpillar” and the “Groan Cone.” The pair made their debut letting the world know that Twitter was down for maintenance. Apparently the Fail Whale was out on a lark, leaving the pillar and the cone to do his dirty work. Go figure. Anyhoo, to pass the time, some tweetilydees traded names for the bearers of bad news as told by Lewis Wallace.
